1Under what circumstances is a registered person required to return their certificate?
Any person whose registration has been cancelled in terms of Act(No. 48 of 2000) must return his/her certificate to the Council within thirty (30) days from the date on which he/she is directed by the Registrar in writing.
2What are the benefits of registration?
Registration benefits the professional person, clients/employers, the industry and the general public. A professional person is accredited by a statutory body to perform work identified for the profession applied for. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) ensures that the professional keeps abreast of the latest development in the profession.
Employers/clients have the assurance that work is done according to best practice. The knowledge that the professionals’ own reputation is at stake serves as assurance for the client/employers. There is a route to discipline non-compliant professionals. Persons who act unprofessional are removed from the roll and are not able to work in the industry in terms of section 20(t)(a)(i) and 19(3)(v).
Registration benefits the industry by raising the profile of the professions. It eradicates tainted perceptions. Registered persons are seen as truly professional and attract better and more interest from students.
Act No. 48 if 2000 was passed to protect the public. Registered professionals are less likely to take unacceptable risks that affect the environment, lower standards and endanger the safety of workers.

4How frequently do I renew my registration?
Registration is renewed annually.
Upon receipt of invoice, a registered person has up to three (3) months to pay their renewal fee.
5Are applicants who apply for candidature expected to submit reports?
Only applicants applying for professional status are required to submit reports.
6What is required from foreign applicants who want to register with the SACPCMP?
All foreign applicants are required to obtain a SAQA evaluation of their qualifications and practise in South Africa for a minimum of one (1) year, in order to register with the Council.
7How does a registered candidate upgrade their status to professional?
The registered candidate will upgrade by means of submitting a logbook signed by his/her mentor on an annual basis for a period of three (3) years.
Upon completing the recommended candidature process he/she will be invited to attend the professional interview.
8Can one apply if he/she has extensive experience without qualification?
Any person who has ten (10) or more years’ relevant practical experience as a Construction Project Manager or Construction Manager is eligible to apply for registration through the RPL route.
9How do I apply through the RPL route?
The RPL route of application follows two (2) phases:
In the first (1st) phase, you apply through the normal Council application process, submitting your reports. The assessors will then assess your competencies acquired and identify the category you best fit, CPM or CM. If perceived competent you will then be recommended for RPL.
The second (2nd) phase: the applicant will have to pay the RPL fee. Once paid, he will be briefed about the process and he will be required to compile the Portfolio of Evidence as per the prescribed format. The POE will be assessed. If he/she is successful he/she will be recommended for the professional interview.
10Who is eligible to write Council examination Test of Professional Competence (TPC)?
Council examinations will only be written by applicants with Council’s non accredited qualifications.
