REGISTRATION CRITERIA
Candidate Construction Project Managers (C.CPM)
Construction Project Management is the management of the physical construction process within the Built Environment from conception to completion, including management of related professional services. The Construction Project Manager is the one point of responsibility in this process.
An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as Candidate Construction Project Manager (C.CPM) shall possess one (1) of the following;
- An accredited Honours Degree in the Built Environment field of study
- An accredited B-Tech qualification in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of one (1) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
- An accredited National Higher Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
- An accredited National Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
Candidate Construction Managers (C.CM)
Construction Management is the management of the physical construction process within the Built Environment and includes the co-ordination, administration, and management of resources. The Construction Manager is the one point of responsibility in this process.
An applicant who wishes to apply for registration as Candidate Construction Manager (C.CM) shall possess one (1) the following;
- An accredited Honours Degree in the Built Environment field of study
- An accredited B-Tech qualification in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of one (1) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
- An accredited National Higher Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of two (2) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience
- An accredited National Diploma in the Built Environment field of study with a minimum of three (3) years’ relevant post-graduate practical experience

How do I apply through the RPL route?
The RPL route of application follows two (2) phases:
In the first (1st) phase, you apply through the normal Council application process, submitting your reports. The assessors will then assess your competencies acquired and identify the category you best fit, CPM or CM. If perceived competent you will then be recommended for RPL..
What are the registration benefits?
- Registration benefit the Professional person, clients/employers, Industry and the general Public.
- Registration will benefit the industry by raising the profile of the of the Professions. It will work to towards eradicating tainted perceptions. Registered persons will be seen as truly professional and attract better and more interest from students.
- The Act, 48 of 2000 is established to protect the public. Registered Professionals are less likely to take unacceptable risks that affect the environment, lower quality and affect the safety of workers.
All CM & CPM are required to be Members of SACPCMP - How does this apply to consulting Engineers who are CPM & Resident Engineers on construction sites?
- Any person that assuming work identified for Construction and Project Management is required to register with SACPCMP as per section 18 of the Act,48 of 2000.
- For purposes of clarity, registered persons are not members of SACPCMP. A person becomes a member of the Council only by appointment by the Public Minister of Public Works as per section 3 and section 4(4) of the Act,48 of 2000.
